Feasting on Fermented Mare's Milk

Posted by: jsadmin

Matty and I didn't get any sleep all last night because there's a dog that's taken up a home just outside the door of our gur. I've never heard a dog like that, barking all night long. Bark, bark, bark, only stopped long enough to breathe and then kept barking. Matty and I had earmuffs and pillows over our head and we still couldn't sleep, so we were pretty tired today but went out this morning and didn't see a single thing all morning.

It was a tough, tough morning but on the way back we made a little detour and ended up in a 200 year old Buddhist monastery from all the Buddhist Monks. It was cool as heck and got all kinds of good footage of old buildings, giant buddhas, 30 feet tall and golden, it was really neat. Then we stopped in at our local guide's gur and had a feast of fermented mare's milk and fermented goat cheese. Fermented mare's milk is actually 2.5-3% alcohol so it's kind of like a really warm, milky beer and tastes a lot like sour, rotten milk, combined with horse, with an after taste of pure horse, so that was our Mongolian feast for the day. Now we're skinning out the wolf from last night then we're on our way out later today to look for roebuck again.
