Barren Land Grizzly Hunt Begins... Almost

Posted by: jsadmin

I've tried twice before for a Grizzly up here, so this is my third attempt. I brought my new Alpine bow up with me as well and I've been practiciing daily for the last few weeks, so hopefully I'll get to use it. Depends if we get close enough to a monster. We flew up to Kugluktuk yesterday, which used to be an old Copper mine on the Coronation Gulf. The weather is horrible so we're sitting and sitting, waiting for it to clear. Our show plays up here on TV and as soon as we arrived everybody starting yelling "Jim Shockey is in the house!!" and they all came running over to me and Matty. Pretty cool that they all get to watch it up here.

A bunch of Beluga whales got into the rivers here last week and the locals shot a few of them so now there are a bunch of carcasses laying out, so we're hoping the grizzlies will be attracted by the smell and find those so that our hunt will be a little easier. There's not much to do while we're waiting here in camp. I bought a bunch of junk food to help me get through the day because me and Matty are going stir crazy waiting for this weather to clear. Louisey wouldn't be happy if she saw all the Doritos and chocolate bar wrappers beside my sleeping bag. What I thought was going to be a short hunt, doesn't look that way anymore. Hopefully we'll be able to get out of here tomorrow if we're lucky.
