Travel Trouble en Route to Mongolia
Matty Gibson and I are on our way to Seoul, South Korea. We had our flights all organized for Air Canada, then connecting on a Korean Air flight in Seoul to go to Ulaanbaatar in outer Mongolia. From Ulaanbaatar, we were catching an Air Mongolia flight to Hovd, on the very western side of Mongolia, but as we were loading the airplane on the very first flight in Vancouver, they told us the plane was broken so we've been panicking, trying to get a new flight. The flights are very few and far between into those areas, so we're trying to get on an Air Korean flight, but the issue of course is that we're traveling with a firearm, so we're dealing with all of that right now at the airport as I'm blogging. They've got our passports and every single bit of identification they can get and they're asking a million questions, but we're hoping that we can get onto this flight which can put us into Seoul in time to catch our connection to Ulaanbaatar. Anyways, I'm looking forward to the trip which was set up by Bob Kern at the Hunting Consortium along with Corey Knowlton. I'm going for High Altai argali and also the Hangai argali, so we'll see what happens here in the next hour or so.
Update…
We made it to Outer Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar and just had five hours here, to shower in freezing cold water, and repack for the next flight that we catch to Hovd to go after High Altay argali. All is well over here and a big thanks to Kathy Klimes, my travel agent who was super smart when I called and told her at the Vancouver Airport that our airplane was broken and we were going to miss our connection in Seoul, South Korea. She instantly said to try to rebook on the Air Korea flight leaving in two hours from Vancouver. So Air Canada did that for us, they pulled our bags out of the belly of the airplane, and shoved them on the Air Korea flight and we made it and even our bags made it!!!! Thanks to Kathy Klimes at Wild Travel!! Lots more travel to go, hopefully it goes smoothly from here.
