Hide And Seek Ibex Game Ends
Great day today. We got one right before sunset. Last hour of light ... this morning we got up early as usual. We set up and started glassing; we spotted four different groups of ibex. We went to a different area, all of them had billies in them, but we went after the biggest one, we drove around the mountain an hour and then took a quad up as high as we could, then hiked from there, about an hour hike. We got 200 yards from the edge and all of a sudden they got our wind and bolted after all that. So we kept walking all along the ridgelines and then Wade spotted a group of 10 billies and a few nannies including three real big billies.
We made a stalk around one side on them got 400 yards, couldn't get one inch closer without them seeing us; they're so switched on. Went all the way back around the mountain walking and came in from the other side lower down, got 415, couldn't get any closer, then went all the way back to the original spot, walking and when we got around the corner they were gone, so we cut down and went up on the far side and sure as heck we sneaked over, there was a smaller billy at about 115 yards horizontal distance but straight down vertical like forever, a long way down and then this one nanny got our wind. She started getting skittish, so that billy took off and then they all started running. And one billy stopped before the other ones could see the spooked ones. And I had about 2 seconds to make the shot, perfect went down all on camera. He's a beauty. Didn't go 40, but he's fantastic, 36x35 and I'm ecstatic about it because we got him with muzzleloader. It was pitch black and we came down with flashlights. Tomorrow we're heading off to another area to hunt oryx, free-ranging. This is one of the toughtest hunts I've ever done. Definitely top three most physical North
American hunts I've ever done. We're all beat up, lots of walking lots of hills.
