Fantastic Weather and Fresh Oysters in the Yukon

Posted by: jsadmin

We’re back up at spike camp today with Tim Schnell.  Dan’s father, Gary Goodenow, who is in his late 60's, flew out this morning on the airplane. He got his big caribou that was about 360 Boone & Crockett points and his wolf was the most magnificent, charcoal-colored wolf I’ve seen.

We’ve had 12 days straight of fantastic weather and counting. Tim Schnell, from Stealth Cam and Walker’s Game Ear made it out here. We made it out to spike camp and have our great Cabelas tents all set up.  Our wood is still going and we’re living like kings out here.  Really excited because when the airplane came in, they sent in fresh oysters for me, so we had those and it was a big treat for the whole day.

The colors have changed totally over the last 10 days up here. We had such hard frost for the last two nights; there was an inch of ice in the bottom of the water bucket this morning. The mountains that were all bright green with white caribou moss and the trees that were crimson red and the yellow willow runs – they’re all gone now. It’s all grey; everything is grey. The frost knocked all the leaves off the trees, so it will be easy to see the big bull moose now, even easier to see now with the big white pans. We know where we’re going tomorrow and going to try to find Tim a moose with his bow and arrow.

We’ll keep everybody posted but we’re doing great out here with the moose. Everyone is seeing them and slaying them. High hopes for tomorrow.
