On a Rooftop in Peru ...
I'm blogging from the top of the hotel that we're at ... a rooftop 10 stories up in Lima, Peru. By the time we got here to the Aristo Hotel, real friendly to hunters, it was about two in the morning. Today I had to go down to the Ministry of Environment and apply for my hunting license because my old hunting license that I got two years ago when I was the first foreign hunter to get one here in Peru expired two days ago.
So I had to get a new one, this time I had to take a test. Tomorrow they say they're going to sign it and then we'll be on our way. As of Saturday we have to drive 1,000 miles to the north of Peru to the place where we'll be hunting the whitetails, if everything goes according to plan. Already there are some issues. My guide, the fellow putting this all together, his wife got into a car accident and broke her arm yesterday. He was supposed to be here today, but he's not, so he hasn't even left from where he is. He's a long way from here, so things are doing the usual stuff that South America does, but we have our fingers crossed that everything will turn out OK. Got into the country no problem and have been doing all kinds of shopping. This is one of the greatest antique shopping places in the world that I've ever found.
Len seems to be recovering. He's back at home. He has a full-time nurse there with him, and Louise was with him today again and he's sure giving it his best anyway. Thank you to everyone sending the kind e-mails about Len and our new "Professionals" show.
