Eva Has More Friends Than Moi?

Posted by: jsadmin

Really hectic around here, trying to get the last few shows finished and out the door to the Outdoor Channel. Watched the "Professionals" episode of Todd Bissenden's first guiding job last night, and, honestly, it was awesome! The entire team can be proud of what they have accomplished on "The Professionals." Also did voiceovers last night late for the final "Hunting Adventures" show of the year. Got done about midnight.

Today will be crazy, packing for Mongolia, sighting in my T/C and doing the last voiceovers for the Paraguay "Professionals" episode. Also have about 100 e-mails to answer. Speaking of e-mails, I just saw my daughter Eva's Facebook page! She has 5,000 friends and has to make a Web site just for her! What's up with that? I've only got 800 friends? Does anybody want to be my friend? Just kidding. It's way cool! Wait until you see her bear hunt on television. Eva and I had at least 10 bears up close during the hunt. It will air as our lead-off show for 2011.

In other news, Freddy Lackie, my operations manager, phoned me this morning from up in the Yukon. He's been flying to all our camps, checking to see how much grizzly bear damage we've suffered, and he told me that they spotted two big rams on one mountain and another ram on the backside of one of our hunting spots! That's great news. We seldom take sheep hunters, but when we have taken rams, they have averaged over 40 inches! Tough hunting, though, it's all backpacking.

Len is still in the hospital. We all feel for him. He is a proud man and to see him like that, stuck in a bed in a hospital, just doesn't seem right. Neither Louise nor I have gone through this before and I'm sure anyone who has understands what we are facing. It's strange to me, to be so free and independent all your life and then have to lay in a bed for days, weeks and months, knowing that even if you get out, your quality of life can never be the same as it was before ... it's something we all have to address at some point I know, but it still doesn't seem right. If anyone has any advice, I'm all ears.

Also wanted to let you know that one of our pro staff, Allan Semeniuk, is in the hospital in Saskatoon, recovering from some very serious surgeries. All is going well, and Allan, as you've seen on our television show and whitetail DVDs has about the best attitude toward life of anyone we have ever met. He's a great guy and we're all hoping he's out of the recovery room soon. I see a big buck in his future!

Speaking of big bucks, I had the chance in Saskatoon at HuntFest, to talk to my old friend Garry Donald, owner of Big Buck magazine. It's still the best magazine in my mind, and it's only getting better with each passing issue! It was good to talk about old times, and I mean old times, I started writing for Garry's publication nearly 20 years ago! Just this morning I read Rob Manley's article in the latest Big Buck, about Garry shooting his great buck last fall, and had a real pang of nostalgia. I'll never complain about my job, but I do remember those days when all I did was hunt and write articles. Too busy nowadays to do that, but once I'm over this next couple years of travel, I promise to you and to myself, that I'll slow down and start writing again!

Gotta go, Mongolia calls!
