HuntFest Fun, Now Back to Hunting!
At Huntfest, there were thousands of hunters from the Canadian prairies, and everyone seemed to be in a buying mood! Cabela's was the main sponsor of the show, and their booth was packed, they sold tons. It was good, impressive, lineups all over the hall for autographs. Hal and Louise were there as well and my mom, all helping out and talking to the wonderful people who patiently stood in line. Thank you everyone for all the kind words. It was our pleasure and an honour to be able to speak at the Huntfest show in Saskatoon. I wish I'd have been able to make the Winnipeg show and and Edmonton show next week, but my schedule never permitted me to go, in spite of the advertising that Huntfest put out, implying that I would be able to attend the other shows. Maybe next year.
We had dinner one night with Ryan Kohlar and his lovely wife Marie, and the second night with Arlee and Lynn Claypool and their daughter Kelsy and her soon to be husband ... Cody Robbins!! It was fun to catch up on what Cody had been up to. His seminars were well attended and his footage, as always, was impressive.
Louise and I flew home from Saskatoon today and went directly to the hospital to see Len. It was hard on Louise to see her father looking so weak and frail, especially when he is such a man's man. He is fighting, but the battle is going to be a hard one to win. We are sad to say that the prognosis does not look good for Len. He got to enjoy the last three weeks at home, after his first bout in the hospital, but now the doctors say it is very unlikely that Len is going to leave the hospital a second time. Louise is very sad about all this, but understands that nobody lived a bigger life than her father. The doctor told Louise that the CT scan yesterday turned up more cancer. The fact that he's still going is a miracle, but there needs to be an even bigger miracle now. Louise wanted to thank everyone who has sent in kind wishes and prayers. Every single one was read to Len, and everyone brightened up his day.
Talked to Freddy, he's up there now in the Yukon. Weather has been horrible, but it stopped long enough yesterday for Freddy and Grant, our pilot, to fly to three of our mountain camps. None were destroyed by grizzlies bad enough to require extra plane flights of materials to fix the damage. One camp was hit hard by a wolverine, but they are not nearly so destructive as the grizzlies. Freddy will be headed in on the backpack sheep hunt soon, season opens on Aug 1.
I have to get packing now for my trip to Mongolia!! Can not wait!! I'll be blogging on my sat tel phone every night from the land of Ghengis Kahn!!!!
