The Journey Home Begins ...

Posted by: Jim Shockey
Woke up this morning, snowing ugly weather, low fog. We waited as long as we could then we headed up; plus we were out of gas ... they only had enough just to get out to that spot where the big bear was. We got out there and sat for six hours watching the slope. The guys went on each side of it crawled up there and watched from other ridges. We saw nine other bears, but not the big guy. We think he must have gone back in his den wherever that is. We couldn't find any tracks.
That was that. Kind of an anticlimax; didn't get that bear. Came back in and everything is a go for tomorrow, if the weather is good for traveling. It's been a great hunt all the way around. Good people. Hard, hard workers. Definitely would do this hunt again. Lots of animals and big animals.
The trip home will be a two-hour flight on the helicopter then a 10-hour drive. We'll arrive at the town around 2 a.m. Then we have an 8 a.m. flight, 7 hours to Moscow. Then overnight, then flight to Frankfurt, Germany, then back to North America. Big production to get here, but definitely worth it.
