Two Days Earlier...
Started off with a bizarre day today. I could hardly sleep all night thinking about that huge ram we saw yesterday. We got up late, as usual, well into daylight and the guides drove in the opposite direction of where the ram was. I asked them what was happening, after we had driven for an hour, and they said they wanted to go look at a different area first and then they would go look at the other area where the big ram was. So we went and looked at the new area first and we saw one group of sheep, and one little ram. We climbed all the way to the top of the mountain, sat there for awhile and then came back down again, stopped along the way, made a fire, had lunch until about 3:00 and then drove home. I just don't know, it has been a strange day. A strange, strange, strange day. But I asked a bunch of questions trying to figure out what was happening because then they turned around and drove home. So apparently.
So we're back at camp and I'm blogging right now in broad daylight, when we usually don't get back until dark. So I asked them a bunch of questions to try to figure out what was happening and apparently the chief of the area wants to come hunting with us tomorrow, so today we weren't supposed to shoot anything. So I think that's what happened, as far as I know. I didn't think that would happen in Iran, but I guess it did, so now we're going to just sit and wait until the Chief shows up tomorrow. Apparently there are good areas and then there are bad areas. We were sent to the bad areas today so we wouldn't get anything. Tomorrow we'll see what happens, so we've got our fingers crossed again.
The next day...
Intertesting day today. We had a full day finally and we actually got out of the place we're staying just as the sun was rising. It was still an hour later than I would like, but at least we got out at a reasonable time today. We didn't see very many sheep. We kept looking and looking. Finally late in the afternoon we saw a heard of sheep with a ram that looked like it would be a shooter. So we went and made a stalk on it and it turned out to be one of those rams that isn't quite big enough, but maybe it is, but maybe it isn't, but maybe it is. So we went back and forth and then finally they decided that it was big enough to shoot but by that time it had spooked and took off. So that was the end of my attempt. The good news is that we still have tomorrow and the next day to hunt.
We did come across a whole bunch of fossils today which was cool. A whole bunch of Ammonite Fossils, so I picked up a few of those while we were making the stalk. We also saw, for the first time, a Persian Goitered Gazelle. That was really cool because I've never seen one of those before. So we had an interesting day, almost had some luck but not quite, so tomorrow we'll try again.
