Forced to Erase Video Footage in Iran

Posted by: jsadmin

The day before...

Yesterday all the guys slept in, but I woke up at 2am from jet lag and read until 8am when everyone else got up. We skinned out the Ibex and basically had an easy morning. We saw a wolf come running up within 300 yards from our camp on the hill while we were skinning but I don't have a wolf tag here so we had to leave it alone. At noon we started driving and drove all afternoon until 8pm. We got into the town of Shahrud and spent the night there and actually had a real bed for the first time and we had a great sleep, which I was really happy about. Tomorrow there's no hunting, for some reason that no one could explain to me, so then the next day our sheep hunt will hopefully begin.

The next day...

Since there's no hunting today, we we got up this morning and got to go out and do some tourist stuff, which was really neat. We went to see two different mosques. Everything is ancient, thousands of years old. We got into a little bit of a pickle and were forced to erase some of the video footage we made because apparently the people we filmed did not want to be TV stars in North America for whatever reason. So that was exciting for the middle of the day. Then we checked out an antique store but found out that I'm not allowed to bring anything more than 50 years old out of the country at all so we couldn't buy anything there.

This afternoon we drove to our new camp, which is in the Transcaspian Urial area. We've arrived now at dark so I don't know exactly where it is, but I'll be able to figure it out tomorrow when it gets light. I'm really excited about it though and I talked on the phone to the guys that were here last week. They are two hunters from Alberta, Canada - Rick Guinn, who's an outfitter and his friend Dennis from Edmonton. They both got Transcaspian Urials and had a great hunt here, so I'm as excited as can be and we'll see what happens in the morning as far as hunting goes. Hopefully we'll be able to hunt, but around here you never know, that can change by the minute. Other than the little issue with the video footage this afternoon, everyone has treated us really nice and things have been smooth.
