Sheep's Head Soup Anyone?
We've had a long last three days. We left North American via Frankfurt and had a long layover in the Frankfurt airport. Then we caught our flight to the Islamic Republic of Iran. We arrived this morning at 2AM by the time we got all cleared through customs with our firearm, it was nearly 4AM. That's when we departed to our hunting area for Persian Desert Ibex - it's a particular type of Ibex that only lives in central Iran. We stopped at 7AM for breakfast, we had Sheep's Head Soup. It was literally the sheep's head floating around in the soup, eyeballs and everything. I bet mike a dollar that he wouldn't eat the ear, but he did, so I owe him a buck. Mike Shroader is my cameraman for this trip. We're keeping a low profile, because of course we're here in Iran; so far everything has gone smoothly though. We drove 17 hours today. After the Sheep's Head Soup, we drove for another 14 hours and finally arrived at our hunting camp. It's kind of interesting - it's just a concrete floor. No mattresses, no sleeping bags, no blankets. So I can see we're in for a pretty austere hunt. But the guys are really nice and everything is looking good so far.
We're excited about the start of this really wild adventure out here in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Culturally, it should be an amazing trip and I'm hoping the hunting part balances out with that. We've got our fingers crossed. The hunt was set up by Pat Frederick of Americana Expeditions and I think Iran is probably going to become the sheep hunter's mecca destination just like Pakistan has been for the past few years, because it is an amazing place to hunt Sheep and Ibex.
