Monster buck taken in our Saskatchewan deer camp!
I just got word from one of our whitetail camps that a long time client, Paul Meyer of CA, has taken a giant buck that rough scores just over 180 B&C! Paul is a lifelong deer hunter and has been with us 6 times over the last decade in my outfiitng area in Saskatchewan. His dedication and understanding of the ups and downs associated with hunting for trophy bucks should be an example to everyone who considers themselves a true whitetail hunter. The moral of the story is this - there is no "easy" way to get a huge, free range trophy whitetail. You need to spend a lot of time in an area that has good genetics and good trophy management with the hope that eventually lady luck gives you the wink. When things go wrong and you have a slow year, you don't whine, complain or give up - you come back the next year and have at it again. Huge congrats go to Paul - you've earned it the right way and I couldn't be happier for you! I can't wait to get up there myself and see what giants are walking around my deer stands.
Here's an e-mail I received from Paul about his buck, once again showing what a class act and true hunter Paul is:
Jim-
Just wanted to drop a note and tell you guys you really run a top notch,
world class operation here in Saskatchewan. After 25 years of Whitetail
hunting, 6 of which have been in Smoothstone, I finally whacked the
SLAMMER of a lifetime. It grossed out at 180 and is nothing but a true
Trophy representative of the Canadian species I've come to treasure.
Six trips to your area have resulted on 4 trophy's that are proudly displayed
on the wall in my house. Even when I left empty handed, the experience has
always been a valued event with new and renewed friendships a common
staple. Meanwhile, the troops in the field, Lyndon, Stanley, Carolyn,
and of course Hunter have continued to make sure the experience is of
the highest quality and is the reason I will continue to return. Again,
thanks for making this another hunt of a lifetime.
