Wolf Pack, Grizzly and Moose!
Great day today. We went way up high into the mountains where I thought I'd see some moose, and instead there was a pack of wolves. Dick made a shot 406 yards and drilled the one wolf. So we got a wolf today, beautiful silver gray one. Gorgeous.
Then we started really getting serious about spotting moose. We spotted a grizzly bear. Blonde and black one, but definitely not a real big one. Then we spotted all together seven bull moose and about 11 cow moose right up on the top of the hills. We were way up high, just stayed in one place glassing all afternoon. One of the bulls I'm going to take a closer look at tomorrow. I think he might be a shooter. Don't know that he's 60, but he's awful close with lots of points.
Tomorrow we'll see what happens. Tarp city camp is looking good, and we're having spaghetti tonight with caribou ribs!
ARGOs are doing great, just chugging right along!
The NEXT DAY ...
We went after that bull to get closer to him to see what he is today. He had six cows, and there were two other bulls with him . I called the one bull all the way across two miles, brought him within about 80 yards, but he was only about 50 inches, so I let him go.
Then we went over and sneaked up on that other bull; he's got a real nontypical side to him with a drop tine and all kinds of neat things, but I called off the shot. He was 250 yards, but I think we can do better. If not we'll see if we can get him in a couple of days. Called a 36-incher right into camp. Tomorrow we're just going to look because my hunter doesn't hunt on Sundays, so we're just going to look a little bit. Moving on towards the rut, everything is starting to happen now ...
