New Hunter Arrives, We're Moose Hunting!

Posted by: Jim Shockey

We're back out at Tarp City spike camp with my new client Jake Plunk from Dallas, Texas. Jake is 37 years old and a real nice guy. He flew in today on the wheeled Otter. The Otter picked up my first hunter Dick McCloud (who ended up with a moose, caribou and wolf on his hunt) and got out safe and sound. The Otter also picked up two clients out of our Forks camp with their two beautiful moose. Mike Owens is now in the Forks; Mike is another of my good customers.

One of the guides today was cutting up a moose and he cut himself. It was bad enough that we had to fly him out to get all stitched up. He'll fly back in tomorrow. At another camp they had a chance at 65-incher last night, but couldn't quite pull it off. Everybody is seeing lots of bulls. At the Forks they saw four 60-inchers together, so they just had to pick one of them to shoot. Nice, heavy bull.

We came from the main camp with Jake after the airplane dropped him off. Three hours in to the Argo ride, we saw a magnificent caribou bull right beside us and couldn't shoot it because it's six hours before you can hunt. So we had to let that one go. So now we're back in the saddle and tomorrow morning we're heading up into the mountains to look for a big moose for Jake. Can't wait!

The last three days of Dick McCloud's hunt it was raining and we didn't hardly get out of the cabin because it was so ugly out. Stay tuned!
